Do You Need Medical Insurance for Campers?

Church camps and other youth activities are a vital part of church ministry.  These events can create lasting experiences for all involved.  The opportunity for students to attend a church camp and other kinds of events can be life changing. The goal is always to offer a safe, fun and challenging atmosphere for kids to grow closer to each other and to God.

One of the worst calls you can receive, is from your youth pastor saying that someone was injured. Accidents do happen, and both the student and the church need to be protected. Having a student injured with no insurance in place can hurt your ministry.

We recommend before your youth group goes on another outing, require all ministry staff and volunteers review a few basic guidelines.

  •  Request proof of medical insurance from parents.
  •  Have written agreements in place for all participants.
  •  Have your insurance agent review all agreements.
  •  Make sure the camp has liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.
  •  Camps and other service providers will require you to sign a release. The release does not apply to their negligence but it can release them from certain liabilities.
  •  We recommend purchasing a youth accident policy to cover all youth ministry events.

Medical insurance is important as it provides a quick response to medical issues. While a liability policy is also necessary it can take longer to work through the legal issues.
