Here are a few ideas from Dave to help you lead your business into the future.

• Set Goals; goals should be specific, measurable, have a time limit, be yours, be in writing.
• Have a vision; share your vision or big project with your team. Get them excited about it by letting them know the positive impact it will have on the company, the team, the community and each team member personally.
• Listen and communicate effectively; good leaders should express sincere care and concern for the members of their group both verbally and nonverbally.
• Get your team involved; once your vision is shared, let your team know they will be setting their own goals as part of the overall objective of the company. Set a deadline for them to complete their goals and schedule a time for everyone to get together to discuss them.
• Make it fun; bring in lunch for a follow-up and review meeting.
• Encourage creativity; effective leaders should offer new challenges with ample support to achieve these goals. One way to foster creativity is to offer challenges to group members, making sure that the goals are within the grasp of their abilities.
• Hold yourself and your team accountable; if deadlines are not met, find a solution.
